Is Phil Mickelson Running Out Of Time To Win?
Phil Mickelson is one of the PGA Tour’s most recognizable and popular players. He has won four majors and a total of 39 events over a 19 year career on tour. Will he win more tournaments? Will he win more majors? Answer to the first question is “yes”. Seven players have won at least seven tournaments after age 40. Vijay Singh has won an astonishing 22 times after turning 40. Kenny Perry has won 11 times, Steve Stricker eight times. Mickelson’s game is still competitive and barring any further health problems either for himself or family it is reasonable to assume that Phil will win again.
Will Phil win more majors? This question is not so easy to answer. Competition in majors has increased, and with the emergence of younger players such as Fowler, McIlroy and Ishikawa, as well as players just entering their prime such as Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson, as well as the number one ranked player, Luke Donald, the competition and pressure to win majors is far more severe.
Phil is not running out of time to win, but he may be running out of dedication to doing what is necessary to win tournaments and majors.
